According to The Plymouth Herald, the city’s oldest professional family law firm Act Family Regulation is to combine with GA Solicitors. The merger was officially agreed at the end of December and will see the Act Family Law team commence job at GA Solicitors from March 2. Act Family Regulation was formed by solicitor Ian Downing in 1997 and was the first law practice in Plymouth to be experts only in family issues.
With 30 years of experience, Mr Downing will certainly sign up with GA as a partner of the firm. He is an esteemed family specialist, placed in the Companions and chambers UK Guide as a leader in his area and referred to as a “first-rate family law professional”.
Since its beginning, Act Family Legislation has supported hundreds of clients across the South West, specifically those in the professional services, companies and militaries.
Mr Downing and his colleague Julia Robson will certainly boost GA’s family group and provide advice on partnership and family concerns including separation and separation financial settlements, splitting up agreements and setups for children, and cohabitee concerns. Ms Robson has 25 years of experience working in family legislation.
“Act Family Law is a well-established and much-respected law firm. The hard-working ethos of the team fits perfectly with GA and we are delighted to be merging with them. Our family department has become increasingly busy over the last year and to be able to expand our team with such experienced professionals was an easy decision to make. This is an exciting time for GA Solicitors as we look to further develop and grow the business and find new and innovative ways to deliver value-for-money legal services. As well as the expansion of our family department, we have also launched new services related to will disputes and contentious probate, and we are looking to acquire further teams and individuals with particular specialisms in 2015.”
There are many other types of law firm and solicitor practices in Plymouth. Law firms dealing in Wills and Probate such as Plymouth based KeyNote Legal specialise in Will writing services. They are a small practice, unlikely to be affected by the merger.
Family law solicitors are competitive when it comes to local business. Plymouth being a smaller UK city, the merger allows the company to perform well on search engines and reach the first page on Google when people type in Family Law Solicitor Plymouth. In London, it is much harder due to the high number of practices. A reputable Family law firm in Finchley might seek to localise the search to the Finchley region of London rather than compete on a search for a family law firm in London in order to reach the front page on Google.
In order to market a local law firm in Plymouth, the firm is likely to work with a local marketing agency in the city. They may seek to find specialist marketing help from an Agency in a nearby city. Bristol is known both as Capital of the West of England, and the South West’s creative hub with many good marketing agencies. For that reason, a law firm in Plymouth might seek the services of a young vibrant Bristol based marketing agency.
